The IP20 rating means it must be installed in a dry room, so it is not suitable for bathrooms or exterior walls, even sheltered ones.

General installation rule: 1.30 to 1.45 m above the floor, next to a chair so that the beam falls on the pages, or slightly higher above a console. Adjust the dome after installation, once the mounting plate is tightened.

Material, finish, and maintenance

The three finishes are achieved through metal finishing, not wood veneer: there is no varnish to maintain or wood grain to protect. A dry cloth is all that is needed. Silver shows marks more quickly than the two wood finishes, which are more matte and more forgiving with dust.

Bulb and installation

The socket accepts a large-diameter screw base, with LED, incandescent, or compact fluorescent bulbs, depending on the manufacturer. In a closed dome, an LED remains a sensible choice: it produces little heat under a metal reflector. The bulb is not included, and the cable cannot be adjusted in length.

Frequently asked questions

How far does the dome tilt?

The manufacturer describes the shade as adjustable without specifying the range of motion in degrees. In practice, this type of dome pivots around its attachment point to point downwards toward the floor or upwards toward the wall. It is adjusted by hand once the mounting plate is fixed and the bulb is installed.

Are the wood finishes made of real wood?

No. The structure is metal, and the light wood and dark wood designations refer to surface finishes. This is a practical advantage: no expansion, no varnish to touch up, and cleaning with a dry cloth. From a distance, the appearance remains close to that of wood under ambient lighting.

Why does IP20 exclude bathrooms?

An IP20 rating provides no protection against water, only against solid objects. Installed in a bathroom, the light fixture would be exposed to steam and splashes. Electrical standards require at least IP44 in these spaces: reserve this model for dry rooms.

What bulb is best for a reading nook?

An 806-lumen LED with a screw base, equivalent to an old 60-watt bulb, in warm white 2700-kelvin light. In a dome directed downwards, this output illuminates a book without glare. A frosted model prevents direct reflections on a glossy page.

For more options

Discover adjustable wall lights from our selection of wall lights.
