Avoid installing it in areas where people might brush against the wall, as the paper is sensitive to impacts.

General installation rule: with a wide 20 cm diffuser, mount the wall light at approximately 1.55 m above the floor in a bedroom, so that the light spreads at seating height rather than toward the ceiling.

Material, finish and care

Rice paper should only be cleaned dry: use a feather duster or a very soft brush, gently skimming the surface. Water will leave permanent marks on the paper. For the wood, a dry cloth is sufficient; wipe along the grain to avoid snagging.

Bulb and installation

Playa takes an E26 or E27 screw-in bulb, not included, with a maximum incandescent wattage of 40 W. An LED is highly recommended near stretched paper, as its surface temperature remains low. The light is hardwired to a cable outlet.

Frequently asked questions

Is rice paper fragile?

It is a lightweight material that is sensitive to impacts and tears, but durable if left untouched. Avoid rubbing it or cleaning it with moisture. Install the wall light away from narrow walkways and out of reach of chair backs.

What bulb should I use behind stretched paper?

An E27 LED equivalent to the stated 40 W incandescent, approximately 5 to 7 W. It produces little heat, which is important with a paper diffuser. Warm white light better reflects the paper's cream tone than neutral white, which can look grayer.

What is the difference between the wood and walnut versions?

Only the wood tone differs: a light finish is more discreet on a white wall, while the bolder walnut finish creates a distinct frame around the paper. The dimensions, E27 socket and installation method remain the same.

Is Playa suitable for a child's bedroom?

Its diffused, glare-free light is well suited to a child's room, but rice paper does not withstand handling well. If the wall light is accessible from a bed, choose a more robust model. If it is out of reach, for example at 1.70 m, it remains a suitable choice.

Learn more

Explore the soft materials in our collection of wall lights.
